Argala Stotram is a powerful hymn dedicated to Goddess Durga and is considered an integral part of the Durga Saptashati. For thousands of years, spiritual seekers have received the special grace of the Divine Mother through the recitation of this sacred stotra—“Atha Argala Stotram.” This hymn is not merely a collection of words but a potent spiritual practice that awakens the divine energy residing within the seeker. The word ‘Argala’ means “obstacle,” “block,” or “barrier.” The recitation of this stotram is believed to remove all such obstacles that hinder our success, inner strength, and spiritual growth.
Each verse of the Argala Stotram contains a prayer to the Goddess for beauty, fame, victory, and the destruction of enemies. It bestows upon the devotee inner strength, radiance, charm, and success in life.
Origin and Composition of Argala Stotram-
This hymn appears in the Durga Saptashati, as described in the Markandeya Purana. Revealed by Sage Markandeya, it is considered an essential component of Durga worship. Without reciting this stotra, one cannot attain the complete benefits of the Devi Saptashati. It consists of a total of 23 verses, along with 1 concluding verse of Phalashruti, making 24 verses in total. Each verse infuses the seeker with a renewed sense of spiritual energy.
A recurring line in each verse is:
“Rupam dehi, Jayam dehi, Yashoh dehi, Dvisho jahi”
which symbolizes the fulfillment of the four core desires of a spiritual aspirant:
“Grant me beauty, grant me victory, grant me fame, and destroy my enemies.”
This is not an ordinary plea- it is a profound invocation for the fulfillment of four fundamental aspirations of human life.
• Rupam Dehi – The divine gift of beauty, radiance, and charm
• Jayam Dehi – The strength to attain victory in every challenge of life
• Yashoh Dehi – The blessing of reputation and honor in society
• Dvisho Jahi – The destruction of enemies, negativity, and inner flaws
